Welcome to Lemonweir River Farms. We are a small 31 acre family farm owned and operated by a husband wife team, Tim and Vicki. Our mission is to inspire and encourage others to become more self-sufficient in their homestead journey.

We specialize in organically raised Welsh Harlequin and Khaki Campbell ducks, as well as Coturnix Celadon and Jumbo Wild Quail. We use an all natural approach utilizing organic practices to achieve a more self-sustainable lifestyle. Our flocks are raised without hormones, growth stimulation, antibiotics or any other chemical products providing the best organic nutrients to ensure quality eggs and meat. Our farm is also NPIP certified 35-0909 (National Poultry Improvement Plan), which means our flock meets specific health standards and are disease free. We offer both duck and quail hatching eggs, chicks, ducklings, Balut eggs, quail meat, as well as farm fresh quail and duck eggs.

Welsh Harlequins are a beautiful breed, great egg layers and have a gentle personality. These ducks were developed in Wales in 1949 and are a beautiful, lightweight breed known for their excellent egg production.  They weigh between 4.5-5.5 lbs and are considered a dual-purpose bird raised for both lean meat and egg production (250-300) annually. They are considered one of the quieter duck breeds and are good foragers. Due to their exceptional laying ability to hatch their eggs, calm, docile temperament and excellent foraging ability, they are well-suited to homesteads and small farms. This breed can be sexed by bill color only within the first 2-3 days after hatching. When animals display a reliable difference in coloration based on gender, it's called auto-sexing. Pink bills with a darker tip means a girl, and a dark bill means a boy.

While we take all proper steps to ensure the highest hatch rate possible (all eggs are laid the day of shipping or the day before and packed to help protect against damage during shipping, etc), there is no guarantee on hatching rates due to factors outside of our control during the shipping process and how this may affect hatching rates. Our hatch rate has been 94%, based on hatching our own Welsh Harlequin eggs. Shipping eggs are usually around a 50% hatch rate due to the shipping process, type of incubator, as well as temp and humidity controls.

IMPORTANT: Always place an extra Hygrometer/thermometer in your incubator. Many incubators have inaccurate readings. We use the Govee brand and works excellent.

SHIPPING:

All eggs are sent by USPS priority mail and should be to you within 1-3 business days once they have shipped, but we can't guarantee the length due to USPS shipping. All of the eggs are laid the day of shipping or the day before and we will send an extra 2 eggs to ensure customer satisfaction. We will contact you the day we ship your order with a tracking number.

Shipping eggs can be rough, so please contact us if any broken eggs, questions or issues.

Once you have received your eggs, keep the pointy side down for 24 hours to let the air sacs settle. Eggs are unwashed, due to the bloom the duck secretes onto the egg just before it's laid. The waxy layer seals the eggshell, preventing bacteria from entering and helping the egg retain moisture. We will include all incubation instructions with each set of hatching eggs. It is important, however, to make sure your incubator is working and able to maintain a stable temperature before you order your eggs.
